In the upcoming two-three years the amount of Belarusian cargo should increase twofold in the port of Klaipeda, jura24.lt reports.
Klaipeda handled 11.5 million tonnes of cargo in 2011. While in 2015, the port plans to handle up to 20 million tonnes of cargo. This is linked with the increase of Belaruskalij fertilizer handling, said Belarusian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Lithuania Vladimir Drazhin.
Last year the Belarusian cargo accounted for 31.5 percent of total cargo in the port of Klaipeda.
The percentage is predicted to grow and reach 45 percent in 2015. This way the port of Klaipeda might become dependent on the Belarusian exports and imports. Belarus exports fertilizers, oil products, wheeled equipment and imports sugar, consumer goods and electronics through the port of Klaipeda.
