The bear named Masha has been entertaining roadside bar visitors for 18 years. Masha, a local attraction, was held in a cage obviously too small for her size.
Animal rights activists claim that conditions were very poor and endangering the animal’s health.
This roadside bar acquired the bear from some hunters, and it was seriously injured, at the time. Fines have been repeatedly imposed on the owner of the bar, but the situation remained unchanged.
Masha will be delivered to the bear reservation in Germany, the so called ‘Park of the Bears’. Many bears that were kept in poor conditions at the zoos, circuses or by private persons find there shelter.
It’s the first time in Lithuania that such a large mammal as bear has been confiscated.
