Let’s meet at the Baltic Ports Conference 2024 in Klaipeda in September

2 days, 4 sessions, multiple speakers, experts in their fields and the ongoing topics crucial for the port industry in the Baltic Sea Region – this is what the upcoming Baltic Ports Conference looks like in a nutshell.

It will be the perfect time to assess the current situation of ports in our region and to predict their future in the context of geopolitics, shipping outlook, transport policy, greening and the energy transition.

Book September 4-6th in your calendar now and join us in Klaipeda, Lithuania for the biggest annual event organized by the Baltic Ports Organization.

Right after summer holidays we gather for the most important BPO event. As every year, this time we will also meet to talk about the most current issues of the port sector and to exchange experiences. September is marked by the Port of Klaipeda!

What will we be discussing?

Our annual gathering we will begin with a welcome reception on September 4. This is the best introduction of another 2 days full of presentations, discussion panels and networking.

Nowadays we live in very dynamic times, that is why we wanted to address many current topics during the conference and try to anticipate what will be significant in the nearest future. The growing strategic importance of the Baltic Sea region is already a fact. Therefore a geopolitical and economic outlook of the BSR will be discussed during the 1st day of the sessions.

The Ukrainian context will be an important point here – we will take up the topic of exporting goods from Ukraine and the state of Baltic port market two and the half year after Russia’s aggression on Ukraine. We will also talk about security challenges and their potential impact on trade in the region.

Shipping and port market trends in the BSR and Europe will also be one of the main points during the conference. Last but not least, we will discuss maritime transport in the context of regulations. We will also take a closer look at the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and Baltic Sea – Black Sea – Aegean Sea Corridor.

Gala Dinner on September 5

After day 1 of the sessions, we invite you to take part in a Gala Dinner. More information soon.

The 2nd day will be devoted to the influence of greening and the energy transition on maritime transport. Port of Klaipeda will be presented as an example of environmental initiatives to generate socio-economic benefits.

At the end we will discuss the costs and benefits of green port strategy. The culmination of the day will be viewing the Port of Klaipeda during the boat tour.

About the Port of Klaipeda

The Port of Klaipeda is a multifunctional port, suitable for all kinds of cargo. With 33 terminals, the port can handle containers, ro-ro, dry bulk, liquid bulk, general, and project cargoes.

It is the second-largest container hub in the Baltic Sea. For two consecutive years (2022-2023), annual container traffic has been exceeding 1 mln TEUs.

The Port has ocean-going container lines to the US, India and Pakistan, Asia, as well as all the major European container ports. The Port of Klaipeda is surrounded by the city and nature reserve, therefore greening initiatives are of the utmost importance.

According to our Green Port Programme, the port invests to the greening projects like hydrogen production, alternative fuel hub, hybrid and electric port's fleet, OPS stations, and emission monitoring programme.



The Port will become an offshore wind installation and O&M hub. The installation terminal is planned to be built in the end of 2025 and will support the installation of the two Lithuanian offshore wind farms.

The largest expansion project is the Southern Port – a new 100 hectares terminal scheduled to be built in 2028. The new terminal will have a capacity of an additional 30 million tonnes or 2,5 million TEU.

The Baltic Ports Organization is a regional ports organization inspiring and supporting its members while cooperating pro-actively with relevant partners.
